Of numerous applications in life sciences, fluorescence detection is where we excel in our product offerings. In fluorescence microscopy of tissues and cells and automated sequencing DNA by labeling or tagging antibody or DNA molecules, the fluorescent label is excited by a UV source, and the identity of the base terminating the molecule is identified by the wavelength of the emitted light. Many biological molecules have an intrinsic fluorescence that can sometimes be used without the need to attach a chemical tag. These systems use high intensity light sources to excite fluorescence in the samples under observation and optical filters excitation light from emitted fluorescence which is consequently is detected by a silicon photodiode.
Other life sciences applications include flow cytometry, blood chemistry analysis, and food analysis. In the latter application light reflectance is detected for spectroscopic measurement of many type of chemicals such as sugar, protein, water, and fat.

The same wavelengths are also utilized for high-speed grain sorting. UV excited fluorescence also provides a way to detect the presence of carcinogenic and bio-contamination.

X-rays are used by some systems to check fish and poultry for small bone fragments or metal debris, and by others to inspect canned goods and packaged food."
